The 3rd Energy Shave for the Brave raises $307,335!
On May 24, 2024, in front of hundreds of friends and colleagues, six leaders in the energy industry took part in the 3rd Energy Shave for the Brave at the Sheraton Hotel in St. John's, NL, raising more than $307,335 in support of Young Adult Cancer Canada (YACC)!
We are so grateful to everyone who supported this event, from the people who came out to celebrate; to the donors and sponsors; to the Honourable Andrew Parsons, Anne-Marie Curtis, Duncan Fitzpatrick, Jim Beresford, Neil Martin, and Sean Leet who signed up for the most powerful haircuts of their lives; and especially to Energy Shave "Captain" Mark Collett who is responsible for kickstarting this event back in 2021 and whose leadership, ambition, and dedication helped make this the biggest Energy Shave yet!
This event is powering the work we do. It allows us to continue to be there for the young adults affected by cancer, enabling programs like YACC Chats and our members-only Facebook group. It allows us to run projects like the Recover Study to improve what it means to have cancer as a young adult. It means everyone diagnosed with cancer before the age of 40 has a supportive peer community waiting for them when they need it most. THANK YOU for having YACC's back!

YACC Live 2024
Переглядів 1382 місяці тому
Young Adult Cancer Canada holds national events to bring people together whenever possible, and we are very excited to host YACC Live on April 13, 2024 at 6:30 p.m. ET! During this webcast, members of the YACC community will talk about what it means to recover from cancer while you engage from a meet-up near you, or from the comfort of your own home.
“Recovery isn’t a simple thing; it’s something that is ongoing.”

At YACC, recovery is about more than survival, it’s about living a life worth loving for the long road. Heather Brown gets it. After being diagnosed with thyroid cancer at age 32, the dedicated advocate and volunteer realized recovery didn’t follow a one-size-fits-all pattern so she put her skills to the test to get to a place that feels right for her. “I realized as a cancer survivor as a youn...

At YACC, recovery is about more than survival, it’s about living a life worth loving for the long road. Joseph Neale gets it. After being diagnosed with lung cancer at age 20, the talented multi-hyphenate added activist, advocate, and YACC Localife Toronto leader to his already impressive resume, letting him make an incredible impact on the parts of the world that mean the most to him. Now, 12 ...

One of the most amazing Men I have ever met! So full of life, its a privilege to know you Mike
Hasn’t affected your character Dawe buddy!
Great documentary Mike. It was a surreal feeling watching your videos because I'm currently sitting in the same isolation room that you were in at the HSC (4-132) and having RAI therapy for my thyroid cancer as well. My sister sent me the link to your documentary and I started with part 1 and couldn't stop watching until I had finished part 3. You summed up the emotion behind the diagnosis and the many ups and downs that come with it perfectly. Sometimes it's exhausting because the face that you put on for others is not always the way you feel inside, and it is an emotional rollercoaster. Your positive attitude and energy is inspiring because I to feel the same way, the only way ahead is to keep trudging forward. Some days it's harder and some days it's easier, but it's good to have people you love behind you to give you the push ahead when you need it. I have to admit that I did laugh at one point in your video, it was when you threw out your dinner. I did the same thing last night and it was the same dinner, bland carrots, bland chicken and bland rice. The positive is that real food is only a few days away after my scan!! Thanks for sharing your story Mike. It's good to know that other people going through this same diagnosis and treatment are feeling the exact same way. It makes you realize that you're not alone in this battle. Take care and thank you. edit: just had to add a note for your Dad. He was emotional and said that he couldn't protect you from this. He DID protect you. You know yourself, as a parent, that protection is more than just physical protection. He helped shape you your entire life and gave you the inner strength to get through this. To me that equates as protection. Job well done.
Thank you so much for this thoughtful message! Wishing you well in your treatment and beyond!
Amazing!
If i get cancer ti would die 🥹

So inspiring! Though I have not met Justin, I feel that I know him well through the comments of some of his family. He is on my daily prayer list. This world needs more Justins to show us how the human spirit, enflamed by faith and goodness, can triumph over great obstacles and show us how to truly live. God bless you, Joan and your family, Justin. May the healing love and strength of Christ be with you all.

Hi Stephanie, Glad you enjoyed it! We're pumped for the next one, too!
Christian may only be 13, but he has always been ambitious and generous. So proud of his dedication to YACC and for his passion to help others.
If you or someone you know has cancer, please visit Jason Vale's website: www.apricotsfromgod.com
So proud of you!
Megan Tucker knows about cancer stigma. First, her diagnosis was delayed for two years (she's too young to have cancer!), and now she is tired of explaining her many appointments and lifestyle adjustments (she must be partying too much, or working too hard!). As she points out, things aren't always what they seem.
Have you met Colin? You may have met Colin back in May when he volunteered at the Calgary International Airport Shave for the Brave, or maybe you remember him from the thank-you card you received at the Shave Awards Gala in St. John's. Maybe you even attend Localife Calgary events that he organizes with his co-leader, Michelle Hume. Or, maybe you haven't met him at all. Whatever the case may be, please take three minutes to watch this video and see how your participation in the Shave for the Brave has made a difference to Colin, because it's not about cancer for him, it's about living.
